Warning from jump street ... this blog is going to be gross ... but it's Leighton's reality so I will post about it ... gross or not ... don't read it if poop and/or throwing up offend you ... thanks :)
So ... about 6 months ago (when Leighton was still afraid to poop in the potty) Leighton started throwing up (which he never does ... he didn't even spit up after eating when he was a baby except maybe 6 times ever) ... it got to the point where we had to take him to the hospital ... turns out he was constipated ... the solution ... Miralax and it seemed to work so after all that was out of him, they put him on a daily dosage ... well the daily dose was a little much and made him go all the time ... so we took him off the Miralax ... shortly after he started pooping in the potty all the time ... well apparently he thought it was awesome because he was pooping 3 and 4 times a day ... great, no more problems there ... wrong! So two weeks ago he started throwing up AGAIN and we were back in the emergency room (these things always happen at night and/or on the weekends) where they took a picture of his belly (sorry an xray ... I'm so used to explaining things to him now) and it showed to quote his pediatrician the next day "man, that's a LOT of poop" ... so even though he was going a little bit everyday, he was still getting backed up. Basically with Cystic Fibrosis all of the mucus in his body is THICK and STICKY ... well, you have mucus in your belly and he just so happens to have a LOT of it and it's making everything stick to his intestines SO ... instead of making us go to Atlanta to see his pediatric gastroenterologist (Dr. Pilzer), his pediatrician scheduled him a visit with the one here in Savannah (Dr. Rittmeyer) ... The night before we went to see Rittmeyer, Leighton got somewhat of an appetite and ate a good dinner (my child is not a big eater and has to take medicine daily to make him hungry which he has been off of since this ordeal started for the most part) ... and about an hour later ... we got to see his dinner again in a not so pretty form (yes, I know ... that's disgusting ... but hey, at least you weren't there right?!) ... Anyway ... we see Rittmeyer (nice guy) and he wants 10 doses of Miralax in Leighton on Friday and Saturday, if nothing "major" happens ... more on Sunday ... so 14 doses later ... nothing "major" happened, which put us right back in his office this morning (and most of the day) ... they took another xray and things look "better" but not yet "cleared out" so tonight I get to give Leighton his first enema (if anyone would like to help hold this beast of kid down ... let me know) and we get to give him 14 more doses of Miralax starting tonight ... so in all of this I'm freaking out ... he's not eating which means he's losing weight and we have had issues with his weight since he was about a year old and we finally JUST got him back to where he should be and now this ... BOO! So Dr. Rittmeyer's nurse acted like she didn't want to hear what I had to say about him not eating and losing weight so we left to go to the pharmacy (where I hit a dang post ... yes ... there is a mark on my poor little baby car) ... then I dropped Leighton off with his Nana and I am currently at work thinking about how much more crap my poor child is going to have to endure ... UGH! Meanwhile I called Dr. Pilzer's office and spoke with her nurse (Spring) who assured me that once we get this poop out of him that we will start working on getting his weight up again, and just to not worry about that right now ... Spring made me feel lots better and I'm so glad that they are always there when we need them, even if it's just for reassurance!!
On a more positive note ... Leighton is super excited about Christmas and he wants everything for a boy that he sees on TV ... His Santa list is long, but he will more than likely get everything on it! This week we get to spend time with our family stuffing our bellies and catching up and then this weekend we are making our first trip to the Christmas tree farm to pick out our first Christmas tree for our house as a family! :o) I am so super excited about this!! Then next weekend ... family pictures!! December is going to be a busy month for us and I'm hoping Leighton will be back to feeling 100% by the end of this month so he can fully enjoy everything we have planned for him!!
